How to find your style and own it!
We live in a society heavily influenced by social media, movies and celebrities. We strive to always follow the latest trends, we try to copy all the It girls and most of the time we still don’t feel comfortable in what we’re wearing. The problem of our time is that we try too hard to be in fashion that we forget how to be ourselves.
But amidst all the daily distraction coming from influencers and fashion designers it’s hard for many women to find their own style. Everyone is unique and everyone has their own style, even if sometimes it takes a bit of work to find it.
1 . Find what colors works for you
What colors do you like? What colors do you usually wear every day? Do you prefer neutral colors or bold ones? What colors works the best with your hair and skin tone?
Ask yourself these questions and make a list with the colors you like and wear. From now on make sure you only buy pieces in the colors you like in order to be sure you’ll actually wear them. See what color combinations you can do with the colors you like and make color schemes. For me green is one of my favorite colors.
2 . Find what you dislike
Just like knowing the colors you like is important it’s equally important to know what you don’t like and what doesn’t work for you. I’m not talking just colors. Make a list with all the pieces you don’t feel comfortable wearing, silhouettes you don’t like as well as anything that doesn’t make you feel good.
3 . Find your signature pieces
Do you find yourself using certain pieces again and again? Do you have a go-to outfit for when you don’t know what to wear? Those are you signature pieces. You may not realize it but we all have them.
Signature pieces could be from a simple pair of sunglasses to a statement coat. Recognize those pieces and build your wardrobe around them. Compliment them with the right pieces and colors. Like if you have a favorite statement coat make sure the rest of the outfit is toned down. Or if you have a pair of jeans you love you can spice things up with a fancy top or go for a classic button down. Also, those pieces are your best friends, invest in them and you can buy them again and again.
4 . Invest in pieces you know you will wear for a long time

Once you know what works for you and what makes you feel good, invest in them. In the long run you will save money by investing in good quality over quantity.
5 . Organize your wardrobe
Now that you know where you want to go with your style, even if you’re not entirely sure yet, it’s time to clean out your closet. Clean out all the pieces you don’t wear anyway and anything you don’t think fits with your style. If you’re unsure about some pieces keep them separate and see if you can add them to your style over time. Just don’t do it with all your clothes.
By throwing out (or even better donating) clothes you don’t wear you will not get overwhelmed when you try to piece together your outfits.
6 . Find your style icons
Do you have a favorite celebrity? Someone you know you always like the way they dress? Pay attention to their outfits. Make Pinterest board with your favorite outfits and take inspiration from there.
Is their style more classy or more casual? Are you maybe a vintage lover? Identify your favorite styles on other and combine your favorite traits!

7 . Be selective when it comes to trends
I know this can be quite hard but when you’re finding your style it’s best if you stick to classic pieces you’ll always love. Buying a lot of pieces you’ll wear one for one season is a waste of money.
Of course, I’m not saying you should not follow the current trends or that you shouldn’t buy trendy pieces just make sure you’re actually buying them because you like them and not just because you saw it on your Instagram feed.
8 . Your personal style doesn’t have to remain “static”
Just because you found your own style it doesn’t mean you can’t try new things. Fashion is an ever changing industry and you don’t want to feel like you’re style is getting outdated. You can always update your clothes with modern versions of classic pieces, like an oversized blazer, as well as add some trends you feel like that match your style and makes you feel comfortable.
